Naturally a foreign national seeking to enter Canada whether temporarily or permanently is required to do a medical examination. As of June 30, 2021 certain foreign nationals may be exempt from this requirement. On this date, the government of Canada launched a temporary public policy in which certain foreign nationals are deemed exempt from the obligations of having an additional immigration medical examination to support an application for permanent residence or a permanent resident visa.
Could this be you? The following is needed to qualify:
- The foreign national must have submitted an application for permanent residence or for a permanent resident visa or have a pending application for permanent residence to which you have not yet conducted a new medical exam.
- The foreign national must have conducted a medical exam within the last 5 years to which the results determined they were not a medical danger to the health and safety of individuals around them and or have complied with a requirement to report to a medical immigration official for monitoring.
- The foreign national must not have left Canada for more than 6 months in the last year to live in a country that IRCC has determined is required to have a medical exam and is prone to having diseases or medical conditions that could pose a risk to the health and safety of all individuals.
This temporary public policy, which is to set to end December 28, 2021 is also applicable to the family members of the qualifying foreign national that currently live in Canada if they meet the qualifications listed above.
